My Green School Art Contest!

  • Deadline for US mail (postmark) is April 20, and for e-mail is April 22 (Earth Day). See contest entry details below.

What: The US Green Building Council - Detroit Regional Chapter, Green Schools Committee is please to invite elementary students to demonstrate their "green school" through art work.

Why: To promote the
Green School in a Lunchbox!
program.

Who: Any child in a Michigan school, Grades K-5, can enter.

Semi-Finalists:
  • 3 semi-finalists from each grade, K-5, will be invited to a luncheon sponsored by ecoSTORE USA for final judging and awarded a participation certificate.
Finalists :
  • 1st place winners from each grade will be honored at the Green Living Festival Charity Preview, Thursday, May 12
  • Artwork displayed
    • in the Oakland Press newspaper
    • at the Green Living Festival, Rochester, May 13-15
    • at ecoSTORE USA headquarters, Auburn Hills, MI
  • Will receive Goodbyn® lunchbox and Bobble waterbottle
Judges:
  • Margaret Matta, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Chair of USGBC-DRC Green Schools Committee
  • Daniel Cascardo, prominent local artist
  • Brenda Pescia, retired elementary art teacher

How:

Artwork:
  • Create a picture to show what makes your school green,or how your school could be green
  • Do not use glitter, copyrighted images or trademarks.
  • For judging purposes, do not include the student’s name or use the name of the school in the artwork.
  • Do not include matting or framing with submission.
Deadline & Submission:
  • Submission by  email with (scanned document) attachment or by US mail.
    • Online entries are due Earth Day, April 29, 2011
    • Mail entry must be postmarked by April 27, 2011
    • Dates have been extended.
Final Judging:
  • The top 18 submitted entries will be asked to mail the original artwork for final judging.
Judging Criteria:
  • Concept: Does it communicate the theme or message?
  • Creativity: Is the art original and unique?
  • Quality: Is there effective use of materials?
  • Judge’s decisions are final.

To register and submit on-line (by 4/22):

    • Student/Artist Full Name

    • Teacher/Parent's (adult submitting entry)

      • Relationship to Child (Teacher, Parent)
      • Email Address (used for contest only)
      • Phone Number
To register by mail (postmarked by 4/20):

All information is for internal use only and will not be publicized. Parents and/or teacher agrees the artwork can be displayed. Only student's first name will be used in display unless authorized.

Green School in a Lunchbox! is a web-based, vibrant, and animated “lunchbox” which introduces concepts of sustainable building to K-5th grade students.  Through grade-appropriate, hands-on educational activities, young students will be introduced to concepts of sustainability within the built environment and how daily choices affect our environment, community and world.
