MI Earth Day Fest Hits Rochester Streets
9th Annual Green Festival Moves Downtown

Rochester will again host “one of the planet's largest Earth Day celebrations”. The MI Earth Day Fest will offer a full weekend schedule starting at 4 pm Friday, April 25th and ending at 4 pm Sunday, April 27th. It will mark the ninth consecutive year that Rochester has been the site of a major green festival, with attendance reaching as high as 50,000.

This year, the event will move from a grass lot, two blocks from Main Street, to downtown streets. Event organizers, MI Green Team, requested the move to improve the event's grounds, visibility and proximity to downtown and parking. They are planning for continued improvement in attendance after a low point two years ago due to road construction.

City Manager, Jaymes Vettraino, welcomed the event's move to downtown streets: “A green-living event has become one of the highlights of the spring in Rochester and we are very happy to have it return. It is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to come and enjoy our beautiful downtown.”

The three-day festival will highlight the green and healthy-living efforts of area businesses and community groups. It will feature over 150 exhibits, displays, presentations, and performances, as well as door prizes, healthy concessions and activities for all ages. Special events will include a ceremony recognizing winners of the USGBC-Detroit's My Green School Art Contest and the 2014 MI Green Hall of Fame awards. Admission and parking are free. Event information and participant registration is available on-line at www.miEDF.org.

"It is an honor to welcome back to downtown Rochester, the MI Earth Day Fest”, added Marilyn Trent, Rochester DDA Board and Green City Committee Member. "It's more important than ever to work together to help solve today's environmental and economic problems through education, innovation and long term sustainability strategies. This festival combines all three and it is a wonderful community event."
