Rochester Welcomes Return of the MI Earth Day Fest
50,000+ Expected for "One of the Planet's Largest Earth Day Celebrations"
The MI Earth Day Fest will return to downtown Rochester after a three-year hiatus. Event organizer, MI Green Team (MGT), is touting the event as "one of the planet's largest Earth Day celebrations" and planning for the return of large crowds seen at its 2010 Earth Day festival. The event will push MGT's Green Living Festival, which experienced lower attendance last year due to several Rochester-area road construction projects and a crowded June event schedule, to September.
City Manager, Jaymes Vettraino, welcomed the event’s return. “After a great holiday season in Rochester, it is time to start looking forward to the spring events in the city. One of the recent spring traditions in Rochester is the MI Earth Day Fest. This will be the fifth year the city has hosted the event and we look forward to another fun, educational and inspiring festival."
The three-day celebration will highlight green- and healthy-living products, services and programs of local businesses and community groups. It will feature 150+ exhibits, 20+ presentations, entertainment, concessions, kids activities, and many special events, including announcement and awarding of winners of the US Green Building Council, Detroit Regional Chapter's My Green School Art Contest. Admission to the event and all activities is free and open to all ages. Event information and participant registration is available on-line at www.miEDF.org.
"It is an honor to welcome back to downtown Rochester, the MI Earth Day Fest”, added Marilyn Trent, Rochester DDA Board and Green City Committee Member. "It's more important than ever to work together to help solve today's environmental and economic problems through education, innovation and long term sustainability strategies. This festival combines all three and it is a wonderful community event."
